Rolls-Royce Energy (previously Cooper Energy Services)

Rolls-Royce Energy are one of world’s leading suppliers of power generation and gas compression to the oil and gas industry.

Before founding Full Stop Ltd Gavin Rattray had a long relationship with Cooper Energy Services (now Rolls-Royce Energy) where he built their technical publications department introducing Interleaf desktop publishing and developing instruction manuals for the Coberra, Avon and RB211 gas turbine Power Generation (PG) and gas compression units.

Full Stop Ltd subsequently provided work for the methods department developing new and revised company engineering standards. These standards were used to standardise build and inspection procedures across two plants; and purchasing specifications so that they could be used for both North America and Europe.

After commencing the build of five Avon gas turbine drivers for the Al-Khafji project in Saudi Arabia for CCC on behalf of the sister plant in the USA, Rolls-Royce needed an engineer with product knowledge and an understanding of how the company operated. Gavin Rattray, Director at Full Stop Ltd,  supervised the build, reporting directly to the project management in the United States, liaising daily with the build teams, the design office and the purchasing department to resolve problems.
Gavin created a maintenance database for the offshore power generation barge on the Total Kashagan Development Program. This involved extracting and collating maintenance data from drawings and contract documents, for Total’s Data Collection Tools (DCT) in SQL server. Considerable stakeholder management was needed and Gavin regularly attending meetings with Total at their offices in London to represent Rolls-Royce.

Gavin Rattray, Director at Full Stop Ltd said “I have had a long term involvement with Rolls-Royce Energy commencing with my full time employment as their technical author in August 1991. All roles have required a good grounding in engineering, communication skills along with an understanding and interest in power plant and gas compression equipment”.

Russell Davison, Project Engineer at Rolls-Royce Energy said “Gavin's practical experience and academic background underpin his versatility and eagerness to accept new challenges. He designs complex equipment operating manuals and company standards that are easy to read. Gavin's publications are readily understandable by his target audience. He is skilled at negotiating with customers and he produces user manuals that meet the client' needs and the requirements of the client's business..”
