National Grid are an international electricity and gas company based in the UK and northeastern US who play a vital role in connecting millions of people safely, reliably and efficiently to the energy they use.
All gas in the UK passes through National Grid’s national transmission system on its way to consumers. As the sole owner and operator of gas transmission infrastructure in the UK, National Grid works with other companies to ensure that gas is available where and when it’s needed.
Full Stop Ltd were asked to work closely with British Gas engineers to produce and refine their templates and style guides and then edit a suite of new policy, management procedures and engineering specifications for compressor stations and Above Ground Installations (AGI) produced to meet the requirements of the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).
Gavin Rattray of Full Stop said: “This project allowed me an insight into creating standards using a committee; it was particularly interesting to see how the IED was going to alter the design of gas compressor stations, especially as I had previously documented this type of gas compressor station when I worked for Cooper Energy Services.”
The project lasted eighteen months, Dominic Feenan, National Grid Gas Asset Specification Manager, who worked closely with Gavin said:
“Thank you for all your help over the last 18 months or so. Your expertise, both from your knowledge of compressors and technical writing, have enabled National Grid to produce a comprehensive suite of policy, management procedures and specifications for assisting us with procuring and building compressor installations on the Gas National Transmission System. I firmly believe that without your assistance it would have taken us longer to produce this suite and we would not have had the same consistency that we managed to achieve. It has been a pleasure working with you.”
