National Grid Carbon Ltd is an independent subsidiary of National Grid which leads the development of carbon dioxide transportation infrastructure in the UK. It works with industry, universities and government to determine how best to deliver carbon dioxide transportation and storage and to attract new entrants to invest in carbon dioxide storage.
During 2012 Full Stop Ltd were invited to work with the carbon capture technical team to help them develop their policies, procedures and specifications from concept to reality; developing a suite of templates and a style guide, from which we were able to create documents using the engineers' notes and convert from existing pdfs incorporating a new reference system, glossary and table of contents, optimising the documents using our skill in proof reading and editing for consistency and ease of use.
Kelvin Macintosh, the National Grid Process Safety Manager for Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) worked closely with Full Stop and, on completion of this task, said: “Thanks for all you help over the last year or so. It has been good to work with you.”
Because of this involvement with the CCS team, in 2014 Full Stop Ltd were invited to participate in the Final Close-Out Report for The Don Valley Power Project; where it is proposed that carbon dioxide emissions are captured from power stations and industrial plants in the Yorkshire and Humber region and transporting them to be stored permanently beneath the seabed in natural porous rock formations or depleted oil and gas fields.
Our task was to draft the transportation elements of the report, detailing the 75 km long onshore pipeline which would use the same sort of technology as the national high-pressure gas pipeline network, owned and operated by National Grid. The task was undertaken using the field research and technical contacts provided, using templates previously supplied by Full Stop to the CCS team. Michelle Blair of Full Stop said: “This was an intense, very worthwhile project with many participants contributing, which made it really interesting”
Adam Richards, National Grid CCS Commercial Manager, said: “Michelle’s dedicated and professional approach to managing the diverse challenges associated with the project was essential to ensuring a high quality outcome. Fundamental to succeeding was the need to remain flexible and engaging with the broader team; a truly comprehensive and collaborative style that ultimately leveraged knowledge from the entire team. The level of technical competence and ‘know how’ was excellent.”
National Grid have continued to employ Full Stop on subsequent Carbon Capture projects.
