Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering and
Birse Water

Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Limited is a civil engineering business which purchased Birse in 2006. It provides a range of civil engineering construction services throughout the United Kingdom. Having undertaken a large project with Scottish Water, for their Scottish Water’s Quality and Standards Q&S III Capital Investment Programme Balfour Beatty, along with Birse Water’s Project engineers, needed technical writers who could produce works manuals to the exacting specification required by their customer.

Full Stop Ltd had previously worked with Birse on site at their Cheadle Hulme office on water and waste water treatment works projects, so Birse were confident that Full Stop Ltd could work proactively with their engineers to produce a meticulously well authored solution, using the Scottish Water Q&S III specification.

During 2007, 2008 and 2009, Full Stop Ltd worked on a number of projects (listed below) with Birse and Balfour Beatty, to produce works manuals. With their strong background in engineering, Full Stop Ltd were comfortable reading electrical and mechanical drawings and using the information gleaned to compile asset data and create site specific operating procedures and equally happy to communicate with technicians, engineers, maintenance personnel and project managers to ensure that the customer received accurate timely well constructed works manuals.

Tom Cunningham, Project Manager at Birse Water, worked directly with the Full Stop Ltd team throughout the project. He said “Full Stop were knowledgeable regarding the somewhat complex and specific requirements of our various clients. They were flexible in their approach and committed to the agreed delivery dates. We would be happy to employ them in the future”.

Gavin Rattray, Director at Full Stop Ltd said “Balfour Beatty were a very demanding client requiring a very fast turnaround, but we’re glad to say that we more than met their expectations, providing constructive input and high quality works manuals to Scottish Water’s satisfaction”.
